I Ran Out of Words
03:52
|
|||
When I found myself home,
I opened my arms to the gift and the giver,
but the air wasn't the same,
the streets were a maze and the town unfamiliar,
So I slept on the edge of the bed,
a precipice set on the plot line of dreaming,
and I kept my spirit in check,
while my thoughts were a wreck and in need of redeeming
It doesn't matter that I've run out of money
or the economy's shot to hell,
It doesn't matter that the president's hammering
on the crack in the Liberty Bell,
It doesn't matter that strangers are moving
into your neighborhood,
It doesn't matter that people are evil,
'cause God is good
But when God opened my mind
to glorious views of his natural appearance,
then I ran out of words
and was reassured that all along he could hear us
His feet, a furnace of bronze,
his tongue was a sword and his voice was the thunder
His palms were littered with stars, his eyes were the suns,
and I ran out of words. I ran out of words
It doesn't matter that I've run out of money
or the economy's shot to hell,
It doesn't matter that the president's hammering
on the crack in the Liberty Bell,
It doesn't matter that strangers are moving
into your neighborhood,
It doesn't matter that people are evil,
'cause God is good
God is good, God is good,
God is infinite and wonderful and God is good

Tide and Tacklebox
03:16
|
|||
The hook in my mouth
taken from your tackle box
and wrapped around the wings of a pelican
that watched it go down
through mellow golden irises
and saw your line entangling my skeleton
And I ask myself:
What if we are ghosts
in a lighthouse off the coast?
from the depths there comes a sound
that lets the ships to run aground
Are we paying what we owe?
Do we borrow what we know?
Are we faithless still?
The smoke in your mouth
filtering through water vapor,
sidling through mint leaf and your memory
A thicket of thought,
scouting over synapses
and diving into decomposing energy
It doesn't sit so well
and I ask myself:
What if we are ghosts
in a lighthouse off the coast?
from the depths there comes a sound
that lets the ships to run aground
Are we paying what we owe?
Do we borrow what we know?
Are we faithless still?
It doesn't sit so well
and I ask myself:
What if we are ghosts
in a lighthouse off the coast?
from the depths there comes a sound
that lets the ships to run aground
Are we paying what we owe?
Do we borrow what we know?
Are we faithless still?
Are we faith still? Are we faithless still?

Ages

Old man's gotta knock on the sky
and then listen for the sound
of rushing wings or rotting space,
a sign of life behind the cloud
or something to remind him
that he's not quite alone yet
No, he's not quite alone
Young families begin
filling baskets to the brim with the manna
Younger man has found a bride,
the older man is filled with pride
to baptize little babies
and to know life continues
Yeah, life continues on
And when the world ends,
how will all these people find their way
when the sun sets
on these dreary post-apocalyptic days?
Forgive our trespasses
and generously give our daily bread
When weaving life together,
family is the needle and the thread
But the old man's gotta give,
I'm not listening to hymns all the time
Young man, open mind,
learn the art of compromise:
abandon complex rhythms
'cause we're living together
or dying alone
But when the world ends,
how will all these people find their way
when the sun sets
on these dreary post-apocalyptic days?
The creaking rocking chair
lends cadence as the harmonies begin
and the sky reverberates
with the echoes of an old familiar hymn

Joshua Powell Indianapolis, Indiana
Joshua Powell is the exhausted wizard at the helm of IN's most haunted rock band. From his hardcore roots in the Floridian swamps and beyond the fever dream of his folk era, his literary lyrics dig for enlightenment in a surrealist muck. “Four LP's and over 900 shows later, the midwestern road dog's ever- evolving, transcendent style embraces hallucinatory metal and grimy psychedelia.” -Audiotree ... more
